How We Sand Previously Coated Timber Decks
SANDING YOUR DECK is Normally Done After The OLD COATING IS CHEMICALLY STRIPPED AWAY
We use a Chemical Deck Stripper Before Sanding.
This is because most OLD FAILED COATINGS are still HEAVILY STUCK To the Decking Timber.
Unfortunately Your Old Coating WON’T COME OFF EASILY, Even Though It May Be Peeling or Partly Worn Away.
Once the Old Coating is Removed However, We Can SAND YOUR DECK
The Sanders we use have a SANDING BRUSH instead of the usual Sanding Belt. The Brush THIS MINIMISES DAMAGE TO THE DECKING and fixings. Belt Sanders are only suitable for Internal Timber floors as they DO DAMAGE THE DECKING BOARDS AND THE FIXINGS.
In Our Process We first REMOVE THE OLD COATING Using The EQUISOL DECK STRIPPING PRODUCT Called X Coat.
We Apply The product and Use a MECHANICAL BRUSHING MACHINE and Pressure Cleaning Equipment TO SLOWLY REMOVE THE OLD COATING.
This is a Messy Time-Consuming Process Which You WON’T HAVE TO REPEAT If You Recoat your deck with Equisol Decking Oil and do regular maintenance.
Once The Old Coating is Removed, we can SAND YOUR DECK.
SO WHY SAND YOUR DECK IF IT’S ALREADY BEEN STRIPPED OF It's COATING ? This is because MOST OF THE DECKING TIMBER WILL HAVE LOST Its NATURAL COLOUR As the OLD FAILED COATING is most likely CRACKED AND DAMAGED, thus allowing Rainwater to get Trapped Under the Coating Surface Which CAUSES ROT AND DECKING BOARD DAMAGE.
Some of the Old failed Coating will have likely Flaked off, allowing Patches of the decking to go GREY.
Greyed Decking Timber is Weakened Wood and the Grey Parts Should be Sanded Off.
When we Brush-Sand your Deck it SANDS OFF THE DAMAGED SUFRACE WOOD So the NEW SURFACE TIMBER After Sanding IS STRONG AGAIN and HAS GOT ITS COLOUR BACK.
